Jump Down Under at the Immigration Museum in Melbourne Victoria

Jump Down Under can now be bought at the Immigration Museum in Melbourne Victoria.

The Immigration Museum, located in the Old Customs House, explores the stories of real people from all over the world who have migrated to Victoria. Two of the six stories in Jump Down Under are of couples that have moved to Melbourne as seen below.

Latika marries an Australian and they both move from London UK to the outskirts of Melbourne on a Spouse visa. Moving to Australia is one thing, but moving with a young child, is something completely different. Thoughts and recent memories of life back in the UK certainly don’t help the transition into Australian life. However with the support of her husband and chilled out lifestyle that they found in Melbourne has made the Australian Dream come true.

Ben and Lisa move Central Melbourne on a Sponsorship visa, moving to a city which they have never been to before and starting work the same day they arrive raises some serious questions on the viability of their move. Should they stay in Melbourne and give it a go, or return back to the UK for the comforts of home?

Jump Down under can by bought from the Immigration Museum shop or via Amazon including Kindle versions.

When one contemplates life in Oz, one often thinks of sunshine, an amazing outdoor lifestyle and a great work-life balance. While these things may indeed be on offer, what is great about Iain’s book is that he also encourages expats to openly discuss the actual reality and downsides of life down under and, as such, the interviewees present an informative, yet grounded, overview of what expats can really expect if they relocate. It covers extremely useful topics such as the reality of making the move, telling the family, settling in and, most importantly, how to get and keep that all-important visa. Because the stories are told by people who have experienced the events first hand for themselves, the reader is transported into what living in Australia really looks like.

Jump Down Under is pretty much essential reading for people who are seriously considering a move to Oz.

The real value of these narratives is in the various trials and triumphs the interviewees recount – dealing with a visa set-back, deciding on whether to relocate a loved pet, the thrill and trepidation of finally stepping on the plane bound for a new life. These are the anguishes and rewards of the expat experience, all powerfully instructive for anyone considering a move to Australia.

Jump Down Under by Iain Ayres is, quite simply, essential reading for anyone curious about expat life in Australia and the process it takes to get there.
